DJ Mag Top 100 2013 Results Are In!

So the top 100 DJs in the world according to DJ Magazine’s annual poll are in. Top 10 are as follows:
1: Hardwell
2: Armin Van Buuren
3: Avicii
4: Tiesto
5: David Guetta
6: Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike
7: Nicky Romero
8: Steve Aoki
9: Afrojack
10: Dash Berlin

Nothing to complain about here really.
Here are some other highlights:

12: Deadmau5 Deadmau5 #12

40: Martin Garrix – only 1 note worthy (ghost produced???) track under his belt and he’s into the top 50.

87: Tenashar – WTF!!?!? Usually we aren’t into DJ Bashing… we love all DJs/Producers and if your track is good enough we will play it. (As some may know our Resident DJ here at The Overload recently had a nasty run in with Chad of Tritonal on FB and we still play their records). BUT… This chick? Take a listen to her mashups on Soundcloud. Adagio For Animals – Adagio For Strings (Tiesto) vs Animals (Martin Garrix) Tenashar Mashup. Proof that money/advertising/and a nice rack get you whatever you want in life.

TyDi who did NOT make the top 100 this year had one of the most humbling comments on the whole ordeal.

Dear fans,I want to be honest with you about something. For the last four years I was ranked in DJ Mag’s top 100 DJ Poll. Apparently this meant I was one of the top 100 most popular DJ’s in the world?… well, I don’t believe I deserved any of it. How was it that artists as famous as Daft Punk were listed below me?? Or huge idols of mine with obviously way more fans? – Not just thousands more fans than me, but hundreds of thousands. How could the numbers in this list make a single ounce of sense? I’ll tell you how – because I literally had to beg you guys to vote for me and even pay for advertising. I was never worthy of those rankings and I shouldn’t be proud of them either. How was I able to call myself the #48 DJ of the world one year when true superstars who scored lower results sat there in such beautifully humble silence?… Admittedly it fed my ego and gave everyone an inaccurate illusion of my position in the music industry. So I’ll wrap this up – I know who my fans are because you’re right here! You’re the ones who write to me on twitter, you’re the ones who buy my music and go absolutely crazy at my shows around the world. So, from the very bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for making my life as incredible as it is today. I truly appreciate you.Tyson

Review – Avicii: True

Here’s our take on Avicii’s new album “True” set to be released avicii-true-albumSeptember 17th! Just our opinion – go take a listen for yourself! We give it a 3.2 out of 5 (we’ve seen other sites with a 12 song tracklist – our hard copy only had 10!)

__________________________________________

01. Wake Me Up – You know it. You’ve heard it a million times. Even if you hated it at first, you know it’s grown on you! (4/5)

02. You Make Me – This one is probably our least favorite on the disc. Something just doesn’t sound right, something about the piano – but can’t put our finger on it. (1/5)

03. Hey Brother – This one is more country than it is EDM. Not a fan of this one. (1/5)

04. Addicted To You – Really like the vocals on this one – reminiscent of the vocals on “Levels”. (3/5)

05. Dear Boy – DJ friendly track – nice progressive feel and a full soulful vocal to top it off. (4/5)

06. Liar Liar – Loving the female vocals here – the male vocals sound a bit out of place. (3/5)

07. Shame On Me – SWING??? He’s tried everything! Country, Alternative, Rock and now Swing music infused into EDM – cool sound. Decide for yourself. (3/5)

08. Lay Me Down – Another DJ friendly track, with a groovy/disco/older daft punk feel to it. (4/5)

09. Hope There’s Someone – This one is by far our favorite. Starts out slow and atmospheric, builds and builds on a beautiful vocal – then drops a gorgeous piano driven synth line! (5/5)

10. Heart Upon My Sleeve – Really strong track – reminds us a bit of “Nightmare – Brain Bug” back in the 90’s. No vocals on this one – just the violins and pianos working their magic. (4/5)
